Documentary on David Platt's tumultuous tenure at McLean Bible Church debuts
Platt served as president of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board from 2014 to 2017.
“The Real David Platt: The Hijacking of McLean Bible Church” premiered on October 20 nearly a year after a teaser about the film was released.
The documentary, produced by the Church Reform Initiative, features interviews with numerous McLean church members, including the former church treasurer and elders, who describe leadership and financial deception by Platt after coming to the church. Platt was president of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board from 2014 to 2017 before leaving for McLean.
The film examines Platt’s teachings of Critical Race Theory at McLean, which caused turmoil within the congregation. Additionally, church members allege they were denied access to financial records by Platt and his allies, with some being disfellowshipped from the church.
Platt was senior pastor at the Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Ala., from 2006 to 2014. At the time he was the youngest megachurch pastor in the United States.
McLean is a non-denominational evangelical multi-site megachurch based in Vienna, Va. with several locations in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In 2018 a church census claimed McLean had a weekly attendance of 10,510 people across five campuses.

How could anyone sit and listen to even one David Platt sermon? The guy sounds so creepy, like a cartoon or movie cult leader who speaks with fake smile and bugged out eyes....just gross. And wow, they even stole from us taxpayers with a PPE loan they never paid back; and their church member who is a congressman who helped them get that PPE loan needs to be in jail. I want to know who that congressman is.
I watched the whole documentary. I don't understand how can people still attend this church. Deceptive "pastor". May the Lord continue exposing all those wolves.
