Christians who supported former President Donald Trump should be on their knees after he was elected the 47th president of the United States, Jack Graham, senior pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, Plano, Texas, told The Christian Post.
“The posture for Christians should be on our knees, the posture should be prayer, and we should pray for unity in the country,” the former Southern Baptist Convention president said.
“We know the country is deeply divided and half the country is disappointed in the result of the election, and yet now is our opportunity,” he said. “If you supported the election of President Trump, as I do, it is our opportunity to now, with the president and our government, to govern well and to respond with grace.”
Graham’s comments come as President-elect Trump moves swiftly to fill senior-level advisory and cabinet positions in his administration.
Southern Baptist Matt Gaetz, Trump’s nominee for attorney general, withdrew his name recently due to controversy and dwindling support from Senate Republicans. Pam Bondi, former Florida attorney general, has since been nominated by Trump for the position. In its daily article, Why “Pam Bondi Could Be Trump’s Best Move for Attorney General,” Crosswalk.com quotes several senators who say Bondi should have no problem being confirmed quickly.
Other than Gaetz, Trump has tapped two other high-profile Southern Baptists for his new administration. Douglas Collins, the nominee for secretary of veterans affairs, is a former Baptist pastor who has a master’s degree in divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Mike Huckabee, former Baptist pastor and Arkansas governor, has been nominated for ambassador to Israel.
