Missouri lawmaker’s daughter and son-in-law killed in Haiti gang attack while serving as missionaries
Missouri State Rep. Ben Baker’s daughter, Natalie Lloyd, and son-in-law, David Lloyd, were killed in Haiti while serving as missionaries May 23 during an attack by gangs in the Lizon area of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital city, according to media reports.
The shooting occurred on Thursday evening, according to Missions in Haiti, Inc., a non-profit organization based in Oklahoma through which the Lloyds served. A third missionary also was shot and killed.
The U.S. State Department is aware of the deaths of U.S. citizens in Haiti but has not provided further details out of respect for the family during this difficult time. Haiti has been ravaged by gang violence, resulting in more than 2,500 deaths, injuries, or kidnappings since late February. The situation remains critical, and the violence continues to escalate. Americans are warned not to travel to the country.
